I cannot believe it's been THIS long since I posted anything here. I guess I'm too addicted to facebook now LOL
Well, were still alive and doing well :D Were trying to get the silkies ready for show this spring so we have to handle them a lot and get them used to people. They are usually pretty good tho.
My son comes home from college TODAY! I pick him up at the airport at 8pm tonight :D I'm so excited. Now I just have to get things done around here. I do have more pictures but will post them later one. Just wanted to come on and let you all know I am alive :D Oh and I got my first spam comment today :/ Don't like that! Have a great week everyone...IF anyone still reads ;)

I got my camera going again so I have to share some pictures :D It's been a while I know. I have been very busy with work and getting chickens ready for winter. We have since gotten rid of the kitten (just can't fit it into our budget with all the vet visits it will need) We have four animals in the house now and don't want another right now. So then what happens the next day after we get rid of that kitten? TWO MORE show up! Not even kidding! They are bigger so they were not from the same litter. Those two lived outside for a few days and then we found out they belonged to the neighbors. Took them home and within 5 min they were back. They locked them up in their barn for now to get them used to staying home again. I hope that works. So anyway...here are a few darling pictures and what has been keeping me so busy :D

Here is my new bunch I travelled to MN for. Most are a very nice quality silkie and I have some BLRW (blue laced red wyandottes) in there and even two turkeys. Can you find um?

below is my newest little one It's a bantam cochin (hoping it's a blue)...this poor baby hatched out all alone, all the other eggs were either not fertile or did not make it :( They were all from others. This little one is now in with the chicks that are a couple weeks older but they are treating it nicely :D

The little one below is a mix (Serama and D'uccle) one of the little ones that tiny one is with.

Below is my darling boy spike (he's a Mille Fleur D'uccle), oh is he sweet. When I first took him from a friend of mine he was pretty mean to me and would bite me at times. Now he's the sweetest boy ever. Took a lot of holding and letting him know I wasn't going to hurt him. My friend had just recently got him back from a friend of hers who didn't treat him very well :( He's got a great home here now and he's doing well. When I got him his comb laid down now it's standing tall (a good sign he likes it here :D )

Here is my other good boy "lil Beast" (black cochin roo) He was another that would attack me at first. NOT NOW! He learned quickly that don't fly here (we carry him around for a while if he attacked us...not something he adored really ;)...now he's a sweet angel :D

Well that's it for now but I will have more :D Oh more good news...they are FINALLY coming out with the new apple comp in a few weeks so we FINALLY get to get it back! Oh I missed that! I am lost without it. It was bad this last year without one. So now I will be picture crazy! :D I will let you know when we get it.

Stefan is doing pretty good...he had been sick though...haven't heard back from him in a few days so waiting to hear how he's feeling. Little stinker prob lost his phone again! GRRR

It was so cute...Last night I told Nic that Stefan was calling us on video phone and he just could not sit still at all. I don't think I could hold still LOL We were both waiting patiently with our kitten in hand that we found in the hen house: We were so excited to show Stefan ;) He's an animal lover as well.

So we sit in front of our TV waiting and watching for the lights on our VP to signal a call from our little Stefan. FINALLY it did :D
He looks so much older already and he is acting very mature and responsible. Were very proud of him. Nic signed I miss you to him and showed him his kitten. We talked for an hour which for Stefan that was really good! He had a date so he had to get going. He met a girl a few days ago and they hit if off so he was taking her to Subway and then they were going back to her dorm room to watch a movie. He told me "MOM, I FINALLY met a girl who doesn't party!" He was pretty excited about that. He was worried he would never meet someone who does not party or smoke. Two things he really does not agree with. He hasn't played wow for two weeks which we were VERY proud of him for that! I was worried he was getting way to addicted to that game. He starts classes on Monday and he's pretty excited about it. He took 15 credits and all classes he thinks he will enjoy. He said he has been talking to a lot of teachers and counselors who seemed to have really given him some insight on how to succeed in college. Many students go their first year and never return. He really loves it there which I'm happy about. I would hate for him to be so home sick that he would not want to stay. He has decided to come home in Dec rather then Nov (nov they are only out of school for 2-3 days. Doesn't really pay to fly home for that. Christmas time he will be home for two weeks. Picking him up from the airport is a day I'm looking forward to! SO he's doing fine and I got to actually talk to him rather then text only so we are good for a few days.

Stefan, you wanted to see what grandpa has been doing to the yard. Here are a couple pictures of that: It looks much better and the chickens LOVE all the extra forage room too ;)

Here are a couple Frizzled cochin chickens. They are the sweetest hens ever. There is a blue and a splash: The splash is Ashley and the blue is Kate...yes, I do have a Mary to alone with them. They are my trio Mary, Kate and Ashley LOL I do have an Olson but he is in another cage right now. To young to add him.

Well, I'm heading out for now but will be back to add more photos later now that I can figure that out :D

Mini Coop done

OH How I want my apple computer back! I just can't figure out how to get the pics to upload to this computer. I mean I CAN get them on here but they are humungoid! Then it's transferring them all one by one to photobucket and ugh! SO MUCH TIME! Hubby does two things and they are all small and on photobucket. So I wait for him, patiently....wait. He's been busy though with work so I will be patient. He has tomorrow off and I'm going to beg him to get the photos on here then. I'm going to at least get a couple I really wanted on here so you guys can see my mini coop :D It turned out really cute and I did it ALL myself. Well, with the exception of my dad holding one of the coop doors while I drilled a hole. And hubby screwed in three screws for me that were way up and I could not see them. I was going to get the ladder and do it but he just did it for me while he was out there looking at it. Otherwise I measured, cut and built everything myself. Sometimes I amaze myself. I will get the pictures on when I can.

Haven't heard from Stefan in a few days so I'm going to try to get a hold of him today. He has went to the whitehouse and I'm curious if he got to see the president or not. I sure wish he would text more often :(

Well, gotta get going for now but will update with pics later. Have a ton of them now to post.

I have the next SEVEN days off work! I am thrilled. It's our Anniversary on Aug 29th so I took the weekend off (I usually have to work EVERY weekend) so it turned out that our large contract with an airline has downsized the amount of rooms they need so our hours at work decreased also. Just turned out to be the same week that I asked off for my weekend. So I ended up with that many days off in a row. The paycheck is going to suck but I'm going to enjoy the time home. I need to do some serious spring cleaning anyhow (cleaning under fridge/stove, curtains...that sort of thing. Plus I plan on building a mini coop inside my big chicken coop for my Serama chickens so they can be outside and still be warm for the winter. I'm planning on doing this on my own so that should be interesting. I will be sure to take pictures LOL I'm not promising what it will look like but I'm going to give it a try :D It's mainly going to be a frame with screen around it and a floor so shouldn't be TOO hard. RIGHT? Oh ya, I already have the nest box...made that last year for my cochins but they have their own coop now so I can use that for the Serama's.
I have baby chicks hatching today also :D I am giving them away, I just wanted to test fertility on my eggs before I started selling them. THey are INDEED fertile and VERY strong chicks too. Were enjoying watching the hatch today. The lady I am giving them to will pick them up this Sat. I also stuck several Cochin eggs under two broodies here. They are due to hatch in about 14 days. They are pure bantam cochin eggs. Can't wait for that.

In other news. You will never guess what my dad found in the hen house two days ago! Guess...did you guess????

A........KITTEN! YEP another kitten. I'm sure you all remember the last kitten we found in the middle of winter 10 degrees outside at 4 weeks old! WHO was very sick. See this link. The pictures are screwed up on my journal but you can kind of see him. YES we STILL have him lol Cory is such a sucker for that sort of thing ;) Well this kitten was at least 6-7 weeks old and not sick at all at least. He is a adorable! And guess where that "kitten who was suppose to live in the hen house" is right now? Yup, in our house! UGH! I sure hope we don't run into anymore stray kittens cuz cleaning the litter box will become a regular every day job instead of every couple day job. I have pictures..will post later.

Well, better get going have lots to do today and it's already after noon.

It's not even going to reach 70 today and it's been raining all day. Where do my chickens hang out when it's raining?? Well, I have pictures I will add here later tonight. I can tell you this...it's NOT in their DRY EXPENSIVE 8' X 8' home with nice soft pine shavings and nice clean nest boxes NOPE...not there! Pretty funny really. I'm suppose to make a trip (about 45 min away) to pick up a hen but not sure if I want to do that if it's raining. May do it tomorrow in the morning. Have to be back in time for my book party tomorrow though.
Well, last week my MIL got into a car accident...she is not sure what happened but she is not feeling well right now. We decided to give her some time off of babysitting so my sister is watching nic (he gets to play with his cousins so it's ok with him). It's only Mondays and Tuesdays so not to bad and it's only an hour and 1/2 till Cory can pick him up. She can't drive anymore for a while at least. Nic got to visit yesterday for a bit and he loved that. We will see how next week goes to see if we will have her watch him or not. May give her one more week off. We just thought it would be best if we are home when Nic is visiting and that way if she gets tired she can just call us and say come pick him up...I need a nap. Work may adjust my time too so that was nice of her. They may change the schedule around so I can work 4pm to midnight instead of 3-11. I told her only if everyone is ok with it. That way it's one hour less she has to worry about. Cory can usually be home by 5:30 if he has to be.

Another OUCH for Nic...(this happened three days ago). I was up early about 5am and decided to start some laundry. Nic woke up and come down looking for me. He was standing behind me in the laundry room and all of a sudden started screaming. I turned around and he's hopping around on one foot screaming OUCH OUCH OUCH! I asked him where it hurt and he points at his heal. I look and then see a bee on the floor still alive. He was stung for the first time in his life. I was worried and watching for any allergic reactions. Give him some benadryl right away and put an ice pack on it. Within 1/2 hour it was like nothing happened. At least I know now that he is not allergic.

Watched the "Hannah Montana" movie last night. It was cute. Cory laughs at me when I watch those "teen" movies he calls them but he was right there with me watching ;D HEHE SHHH I didn't say that on here! Don't tell him!

Ummm lets see...I don't thing anything else interesting happened lately so I better get upstairs and make some breakfast. I can't believe it's almost 9 already and I was up at 6am and got almost nothing accomplished so far today! Talk later :D Have a great week.

Been watching some movies finally

Hey everyone. My son "nailed" his placement math exam he says! It was a test to see where he will be placed in college when it comes to math. Also, we had been having trouble with getting his diploma and that is finally fixed. The school for the deaf had sent the incomplete transcript so we waited to hear from them leaving messages (everyone was gone for the summer) Finally I got a hold of the principal there and she helped me out and got it done. His grades were all A's and B's with one C being in budgeting LOL Go figure! Anyhow, we got it and it's all good and I get to pick up his diploma on Monday. He had to get it from our home school system which stinks. In order to get it from the School for the Deaf he had to go 2 years there. That's ok tho...he got it and he's happy.
We have been watching a lot of movies lately. One that was really good was "17 again" It's a watcher folks. Very funny! I will list the others later. Have to get going...gotta get up very early to go to work again tomorrow. This morning was a 4am work day too so I'm exhausted tonight. Everything else is going pretty good. Slaughter date for the meat chickens is coming up soon. About 2 weeks. That will be strange! Now they all follow my dad around LOL Pretty funny site really. He has 37 chickens walking behind him whenever he walks around. They see him most of the time so they know him well. The hens will follow me everywhere but not the meaties. Well, unless they are hungry then they will follow anyone! Gotta go! Talk later.

My son text me this morning :D It made me happy. Two nights ago I was trying to talk with him and I was asking all sorts of questions lol he sent me a text back saying Mom, I'm really busy right now I will text you back. UGH! That drives me nuts when I want to know answers to the questions I was asking him. It's way harder then I thought with him being almost 1000 miles away :( I miss him a lot and knowing I can't just drive to see him any time I want is driving me crazy. So this morning when I got his text you can imagine how happy I was. He was getting ready for class so he just wanted to say hi and tell me he would text me on his break. He still says he's loving it there though :D
Well, last night and the night before last we made home made bread...(four little loaves and one big one) I put four little loaves in bags and gave them to my co workers along with some fresh home made butter. They loved it! Then Cory brought some over to his parents and he said they loved it too. We had to make more last night so we had some LOL I think I could live on those two items alone! LOL Well along with farm fresh eggs and OJ so I could get some vitamins. Every day we try to omit another form of preservatives. The more we read on this crap the more we really want to make everything home made. Cory is a big helper when it comes to this because he loves the finished results we get. And he's worried about all the preservatives in the foods now a days. We all work together as a family so that's nice too.
Oh my daughter had a really good date the other night...he got her flowers, took her out to eat and they went to the fair. He paid for everything and she seemed to really like him :D He's the captain of the research vessel that she met.
Well, I better get going..Cory did all the laundry yesterday and I need to get it hung up and put away before I head off to work. Cindy, if your reading this I will bring over some fresh bread and butter the next time I visit. I also have some towels for you.

Home made??

Well we have made home made butter and let me tell ya...we are hooked! It's 100% better then the store bought butter and way healthier for us too. We will now be making home made butter. We are also making home made bread (that was a long time ago if you all remember) and now we have looked into making our own cheese as well. In three weeks we will have home grown chicken (they go to the butcher then) I may have to quit my job to keep up! LOL No, it's not really that time consuming and it's WELL worth it.

One highlite of our night tonight was meeting our daughters friend (hopefully maybe boyfriend some day) He's very nice and we think he would be good for her. He's a research vessel captain and he's 28 yrs old. Alex is only going to be 21 but I think she needs someone older. Nic loved him and when we got there he was under a tent with Nic talking with him. I should have got a picture of the two of them. Well, got a movie so were going to go check that out. I have to get up at 2:30 am to go to work and I work till 3pm. It's a long day like every weekend so I better get moving. Will update later. Stefan...you would like Brandon...his aunt is an interpreter for the deaf :D

Whats going on/bragging a bit ;) I love my kids

On Thursday Stefan will have been at Gally for two weeks! He has text me a few times now though. The night before he text me asking me to check out a website becasue he wanted to purchase a blackberry phone and asked me if that would be ok and what I thought of the phone and if his dad was available to look at it for him. I told him if the price was really what they say and there is no hidden costs (we all know how that can work) that it was fine with me. The phone is suppose to be free (with a mail in rebate that is) and then it is suppose to be 30 bucks a month. Well later that day a 280.00 charge came out of his checking. I text him back and said WOW that's a lot to spend for a blackberry. Was that FOR your phone? Later he text back and said...NO I put 280 in my savings account and waiting on the phone right now. THAT to me proves my son is growing up :D It made me very happy to hear that!

He is doing wonderful at Gally and I am just SO proud of him, I can't seem to say that enough. He really loves it there and has met a lot of new friends.

He told me a few days before he left for school "mom, what if I don't find the right girl?" I said what do you mean by that? He says "well, I have been looking and I can't seem to find a girl who does not smoke, do drugs, or drink and is nice all in the same person" I told him he just needs to keep looking and he will just know when that person comes along. He's so young but that has been on his mind for some reason since he has turned 18 or maybe even before that. If anyone knows Stefan they know he has always been a kid who does not drink, smoke or do drugs...heck the kid even refuses to speed and yells at me when I do! LOL And he never wants anyone who would do those things and we all know in todays world the peer pressure is awful and most kids are not strong enough to say no so I can see why he is worried. When Stefan gets married I know he wants it to be forever so I told him that he is allowed to be picky to some extent. The girl who finds Stefan will be a lucky girl indeed IMO :D

I am so lucky to have three wonderful children... My daughter just informed me she has an interview with a nice company where she can make really good money and I am so proud of her too for not giving up when times got tough for her. She is my strong willed child that is scared by NOTHING. She says it like it is and to your face. She doesn't care what others think of her. She is SO opposite of her brother (she speeds) LOL NO, she is a wonderful person and would do anything for anyone. She insisted she move out the day she turned 18 and she did, and she never moved back in (except for a week here and a week there). I give her credit for wanting to do it on her own even though she really could not afford to. She did it, and she is now in her own apt (paying for it on her own) and she seems much happier now. I just pray this job works out for her.

And we have Nic...well, he's sort of between his sister and his brother when it comes to personality. He is very quiet when we are around people but he's sneaky too. His new thing is saying "I love you 40, 90, 1000, 40, 90, 100, 40, 90, +1 40, 90 +2 (going on for 5 more minutes)" sort of thing. It's so funny. We need to get it on video. He has been addicted to grandma lately with me working so much he sees a lot of grandma. When he was little and I was home he wanted mom only. He sure is my lifesaver. I'm so happy to have him here with us now that both Alex and Stefan are gone.

LISA...YES, I do still have chickens. Could never give up my chickens. Only got more...were raising meat chickens now :D

My dad is gone this week...I think most of you know that my dad had moved in late last year? He went to my sisters to babysit her dogs for her. Seems strange him not being here...mostly quiet! And I have NO clue whats going on in the news! lol He always keeps me up to speed on that. I had to get into his room and CLEAN...he's SO messy! I washed his sheets (he doesn't see the need in that he says :/ ) and I washed his clothes. I wonder if he will notice his sheets are back to blue! LOL I will also have to add a garbage container to his room. He had empty bags of BBQ chips all over! Along with Coke cans. Ants had invaded his room. It has been nice though to get to know him sober. When I was a child he was always drinking so I never seen him and when I did see him I didn't want to be around him. He had to quit due to his health but by that time I had already pretty much decided I didn't care to have anything to do with him. Not that I didn't want to but I just didn't know HOW to I guess. He lived with my sister for 11 years and he has been here with me for one so far. I never knew anything about him so I was kind of nervous to have him move in. It's been nice getting closer to him for the first time in my life. I know Cory gets annoyed with him not taking off his shoes in our home and just some other annoying qualities he has but like I told Cory. Carpet can be replaced easily enough when he is gone. It's worth it to me to get to know him. Cory has been wonderful about it so I'm thankful for that.

Well, nothing else going on around here really...OH we went to subway last night for dinner and Nic opened the door for me :D I have been working on manners with him and that is one thing I told him (always open doors for lady's) It was so cute.

Back from Gallaudet

It was a very sad, exciting, tiring, hectic trip but we are back home and I still feel like I will see Stefan over the weekend but I won't :( It's going to be a LONGGGG several months for me and I promised Stefan I would keep the journal updated so he could read what's been going on in our lives. I hope he emails me to let me know what's going on in his. I do know he's been getting around. We added his checks to his checking account that he got from his graduation and we seen he is using the metro system and even going to target and subway. That scares me because I really didn't see him exploring to much. I just wanted him to stay on campus! LOL I know...silly, but I'm a worried mother! I can't stand this and I hope I find a way to cope with it and realize that he's not a baby anymore *crying* Oh it's going to be hard but I will do it.
Nic is not understanding the length of time till he sees his brother again. He is thinking it's going to be the weekend like before.
I explained to him that we would not see Stefan until AFTER he turns 5 yrs old and it 's snowing outside! Man, now that I say that it does seem SO far away :(
Nic was SO good on our trip...we had a couple times where he was a little stressed out but over all he did fantastic! He didn't even want to watch many movies. I think he only watched three the entire trip! (17 hours there over 20 back becasue we took a different route) That shocked us but we were happy about it.

Well, let me tell you a little about what went on over the week. We had two days at Gallaudet just taking some classes of our own (only the first hour was with Stefan and the rest of the two days we were separated) and we learned a lot about the campus and about money for the students etc...we even had an exercise day LOL It was fun and with that we learned a lot as well. The last day we had a session on "letting go" THAT was harder then I thought. One of the single moms there (by the end there were only four couples left and two single moms) started crying so hard (she was letting go of her only child...a girl) and that made ALL of us women start crying. Oh I felt so bad for her. It must be extra hard for her to lose her one and only. At least I still have Nic here to help me through it. We got to see Stefan a few different times...the first day there we figured we would have lunch with him so we were looking for him and where do we find him? At a table with three girls! Well, he's fitting right in and he seems happy to be there. The last day he looked a little sad and I asked him why he was sad...he said he wasn't sad to be there just sad that we were leaving and he wouldn't see us for so long :( He has already made lots of friends there in just the two days WE were there with him. I have to say I am SO SO SO SO glad we went with him. I would have been a nervous wreck if I hadn't. Now I seen the campus which was BEAUTIFUL and I know he's going to be safe. It's completely fenced in and they have a guard on duty 24/7 at the gate where you drive in. I have some pictures to share with you. We were not able to take many as I forgot to charge my darn camera before we left but I did get a few.

Another great thing that happened on our trip was I got to meet one of my online friends from IN :D Her family and ours went out to eat and we talked for a few hours before we had to head out to our last hotel stay on our way home.

Leaving for Washington DC soon

Well, Wed morning we will be leaving at around 4am to head to Washington DC. We are taking our son to college :( It's a sad thing but a really happy thing to. I'm really going to miss him! I have been slacking on the journalling lately but hope to get back to it soon. I hope everyone is doing ok and I miss you all! I have just been SO busy lately that I don't have much time to get online anymore. Still working full time and now we have upgraded to three chicken coops (yes, I STILL love my chickens) :D They have really made me happy and everyone here is doing great! Nic is getting big (he's going to be 5 this Nov already) and nothing big to talk about right now. I will try to update with pics soon after we get back home next week sometime. Take care!

Busy

I'm very busy raising Meat chickens linked here---> http://freedomrangers.blogspot.com/ And working of course. ALSO getting ready for a graduation party July 11th! That in itself is a lot of work. So I put everything on hold until July 14...everyone will be gone and my life will begin to get back to normal. But I do update my meat journal every day because we are keeping a diary on how well/bad it goes and if it's worth it or not.

WHY? Because I wanted to put them in with my meat chicks so they can all get to know each other since they will be sharing a coop this summer. I don't have any where else for the two little ones to go otherwise. The chicks were just fine and playing with the other 25 babies and every gets along great. On the other hand mother is IRATE! She is pecking on all the others in the cage with her and calling for her babies :( I feel bad but it's the best for all. Plus she eventually has to give them up. She has started to do a little better (an hour later) and I'm sure every hour will get even better and soon she will forget. She yelled at me and fluffed up her feathers and attacked my had when I tried to get the babies LOL She doesn't hurt but she just acts big HEHE. She's so sweet and such a good mommy. Can't wait for her to hatch some more! Maybe this year yet IF I start getting fertile eggs.
Well, Stefan got his wisdom teeth out this morning and he's feeling some pain this afternoon. They got him on vicadin (SP) and 4 ibuprofen every four hours. Poor kid!
Nic is his normal get in trouble Nic LOL He's such a cutie! I can't believe next fall he goes to school already! I don't want him to!

New news...not sure if I told you all that we are going to be raising meat chickens from now on? Well, they were in the mail this last wed...did not get them yet. I'm worried they are lost in the mail. I have calls in to the distribution center and I'm hoping they get them there this afternoon. I would drive to get them there vs waiting for them to be delivered to my P.O. tomorrow morning. My chicks have always only taken two days to get here :( I'm worried if I wait till tomorrow 1/2 of them will be dead :( I am also starting a new journal JUST for my records of our meat birds so if anyone is interested in watching this journey your welcome to join me there. I will put a link in here when I get it made. There will also be lots of pics to see the growth...were going to be trying different meat chickens and we want to know the what the best tasting one is etc...just a record keeping journal really but it will help us know what to do in the years to come.

Stefan is home on break and we are getting invites ready for his grad party on July 11 :D He leaves July 27 to go to college. I will have lots of pics of his graduation and party when hubby gets them all uploaded for me. Watch for those later.

Missie, to answer your question...yes, Stefan is heading off to Washington DC on July 28th :( It's going to be a happy day and a sad day for us. It SOOOO far away from us :(

Update on how I have been doing on my new health trek...well I have been doing pretty darn good. I have lost 5 lbs since starting the gym...I can tell a difference in my clothes now (just a little but I can still tell) so that's good. Like I said before...as long as the weight is coming off (even slowly) I am not going to change what I eat. I still eat pizza, soda, whatever I want and whatever I did BEFORE I started exercising. I need something to change when I hit a plateau. When that happens I will go down on calories but not until then :D I LIKE eating, why stop if I'm losing?? I DO eat fruit and healthier foods too but I don't cut the sweets or fattening things. If I want them I eat them. I am still going to the gym every day (except weekends) and I believe I am starting to feel better. And feel better mentally for sure! I have to admit...it's darn hard getting up every morning and pulling my butt out of bed to go work out but I do believe I"m starting to enjoy it. I was there today and I will be there tomorrow. Starting to get to know the "regulars" who go about the same time we do.

Chick update: The mommy is showing them food and water today so they have both ate and drank :D And still hiding under mommy to stay warm but coming out more often to investigate things. They are just too darn cute! I can't wait for the next batch she sits on. I just know I"m going to have TONS of chicks running around just to see this again. She will even be a better mother next time :D

Were getting plans made for our meat chicken coop. YES, I said meat chickens. We have decided to buy a dozen freedom rangers and send them to the butcher to have fresh chicken for our table. We are also starting a long process to prepare us for beef cattle. We will get two cows hopefully next year maybe the year after. Depends on how long it takes us to learn about them and how to raise them. AND to get our field fenced in and a shelter built for them.
We got our garden half planted now and expecting some nice veggies soon :D I really need to learn how to can so we can preserve them. Other then those things, I have been working and playing with the chickens and gardening.
I better get moving for today but wanted to come update.

The other hatched out yesterday and she is just super cute! She has little puffy cheeks like her mommy (an EE or Easter Egger) and she has feathered legs like her daddy (Cochin) I just hope it's a girl now cuz I really want to keep her. I hope they are both girls and I will keep both of them. This is the cutest thing ever to witness! I can't stop watching them LOL they are always doing something different and mommy is now teaching them how to eat and drink :D She wasn't a very good sitter but she sure is a good mommy. Well I guess she did ok since they both hatched right?! They are getting brave and starting to come out from under mommy too so we get to see them more. I pick them up now and she is just fine with it.
I have my video camera on the charger so tomorrow when I get home from the gym I'm going to take some pics with that and a video too. BOY this is SO much easier then having the brooder light running 24/7 AND cheaper! I just let mom do all the work.

I did get to the gym today again...I also went thursday and Friday of last week which I wasn't here to report. I am starting to notice a difference now too. I was looking in the mirror at myself and I"m starting to firm up in certain places now :D NOW I just need to step up on the aerobics to get rid of the flab so I can SEE the firmness LOL.I lost 5 lbs since starting the gym which is good since I'm prob putting on muscle weight. We are going to get our fat % tested this week too so we can see the difference after a months time. I am also calling to make an apt with the doctor to see what my levels are. Hadn't done that since 2005. Cory got his done and all his levels improved since 2005. He is still riding his bike almost every day or every other day for sure. And we are planting our garden (1/2 done now) so that is hard work too!

Well, I better get some things done before I have to run out to work. Last night work sucked by the way. NO laundry was done at all so I got the whole works! Two HUGE carts full and our carts are the huge types on wheels. I was not a happy camper yesterday when I got to work. I did have almost all of it done by the time the auditor got there. He only had 1/4 load left to fold. Today I'm sure will be the same. Thank god I have three days off coming up here.

Next week is Stefan's graduation! I'm so proud of him! He's getting all A's and B's He goes on his class trip to Chicago this week too. We are having his grad party on July 11th. Should be fun. I have lots to do before that time though so I'm asking for a few days off work right before the party. I have to remember to do that tonight. I want to shampoo my carpets too...they are getting so bad. My dad refuses to take off his shoes and we always had that rule for our family...still do. So him being 83 and set in his ways we can't get him to change. He is forever hauling in dirt and mud everywhere. We want to replace carpets in a few years anyhow so it's not so bad, we can live with it for now. At least the rooms that got new carpets he doesn't go in thank goodness.

OH MY GOSH! I almost forgot...did anyone see Marley and Me? IF YOU DID NOT, YOU MAY NOT WANT TO READ FARTHER! STOP NOW AND GO WATCH IT! HOLY cow was that sad! I was crying my eyes out! Seriously! I don't remember a show that made me cry more. It so reminded me of our poor Baily when we had to get him put to sleep. We carried him home and buried him in our back yard and put rocks over his grave just like they did with Marley. It just brought back so many memories. SO SAD! The only difference was the whole family went in when he was put down. We were all crying like big babies. Poor Alex and Stefan grew up with Bailey and they took it the hardest. He was SO old though and he had a good life. I was bauling becasue I felt so bad for them! It's so hard to see your kids hurt. I'm not looking forward to doing that with Max someday. That will be just as hard. This time it will affect Nic the most. But all the sadness is worth it in every way just to have them in your life. Dogs are wonderful MOST TIME LOL We all know Max was NOT a good doggy at first...remember what our basement looked like with all the feathers from the feather pillow?! LOL Max is like Marley in a lot of ways. He's still naughty sometimes and gets into things but we love him to death and he loves us. We could never get rid of him no matter how naughty his is. The other day he peed on the couch! YESS, the couch! Thank god it was the one downstairs so I took it all apart and soaked the cushion and it's all clean and fresh smelling now :D Lots of word though. Not sure WHY in the world he did that...sometimes he dreams so deep that he doesn't wake up...that's what were thinking happened. Plus Stefan forgot to let the dogs out before bed like I asked him to do.

Ok I'm gone! I have to get something done today and I have to get ready to go in an hour...doesn't give me much time at all.

I STILL have not found my camera (BUMMED) and now we have two new chicks that hatched from under the broody silkie. OH THEY ARE ADORABLE! Even more so seeing them under their mommy. Well she is not THEIR real mommy but she is a mommy to them. They are hiding under her right now but the one that hatched last night is getting brave now and showing himself to us for a few seconds before zooming back under mom. This is my first time witnessing this and I'm thrilled. Also thrilled that my dad got to see it because he wanted to see that. He said well, I'm shocked that she did it! LOL I am too since they are three days late I was beginning to give up hope. I was going to toss the eggs tomorrow if they hadn't hatched yet. I knew they would be a little late as this was her first time trying to hatch out eggs and she wasn't the best at it. We found them both outside the nest twice and she couldn't get them back in so we put them in for her. It prob slowed them down a bit. I'm going to try to get a video of this...we still have our video camera so on my day off WED I am going to do that.
I have to get ready for work now so I will chat at you guys tomorrow. I DID get to the gym again today too :D Tomorrow is another day and I will make it there then too. I lost 4 lbs so far even eating what I want to eat :D It's worth it!

Back to the gym

Well today after taking a few days off from the gym...Sat and Sun becasue of working all day and Monday it was closed and I was sick on top of that...Tue and Wed I was really sick SO today was the first day back after days. I was still not feeling the best but I just didn't want to take yet another day off. It was hard going back and I got tired more easily because of having crap in my lungs yet that I am coughing up all day. Nick has been sick too but he is getting better faster than I am.
We just got in from mowing, taking care of chickens, raking the lawn to get some nice greens in our compost pile, and cleaning chicken coops. It's been a long day today. Plus I got some laundry done and a little cleaning. Tomorrow is another gym day and then it's back home to clean some more. I told Nic that him and I could have a picnic outside for lunch so we will make sandwiches and have a fun time outdoors.

I have chicks due to hatch tomorrow :D Two of them...the eggs that the silkie is sitting on :D I can't wait to see what type of mother she is. I hope she doesn't eat the chicks like the other darn hen did.
Our blue orp rooster has taken a liking to the hens and is spending the night in the big hen house tonight. He hasn't quit figured out the mating part yet but he's young.

OUr little silkies are getting HUGE! Remember I got four babies a while back. A black, blue, splash and white. I know for sure I have one hen and one roo but two are stumping me...I'm thinking two hens and two roos. Not sure yet though. They are always so hard to tell. They are in a different cage right now away from the new mother to be but will be added to it again after the chicks are big enough to move out. The chicks will get a new home as well (they are mutt chicks from the hen house)...I am just hatching them to check her mothering ability before I allow her to hatch other eggs. OH I also got a splash Frizzle bantam cochin and two (I think) blue bantams...one frizzle one straight. I cant wait to see them all grown up :D
I haven't been able to find my camera for days now and I have LOTS of pics I want to take. I could have had a few really cute ones that I missed. LIke Nic and Olivia (our barred rock hen) looking into a puddle of water. Nic was all scrunched down by her on his feet and it was so darned cute! Not sure what they were looking at but something got both of their attentions.LOL Our chickens are just getting so very friendly because they know we are trust worthy now and they aren't afraid of us at all. Most of them will jump right up on your lap now. Max and Cubby are both great with them and even left alone they do not even bother chasing them. It's wonderful! Just a little training and they are just fine. Well, were going to watch Marley and Me so I will update tomorrow. OH eating went fantastic tonight :D HEATHER!!! Today was a great day...well, maybe not perfect but today I did a lot of research on weight and what calories I have to stick to to lose my desired weight. I have to eat about 1600 calories...or just a tad bit over that to continue to lose. I can do that! I can~! I did today in fact and that was with eating out at McDonalds for lunch. My total intake at Mc D's was 1060. More then I would have liked but it didn't ruin my day. IF i had had breakfast I would have been over for the day but since I didn't I was ok. I had Tuna over biscuits with green beans for dinner. I stuck with only the 2 biscuits per serving amount and I was just right. Not to full but not hungry after eating. I had a nice LARGE glass of water too. I did end up having 2 sodas on top of everything but even with that it didn't bring me over my calorie limit. My calories today were right around 1660 for the whole day. Not bad. Now I just have to choose healthier items next time.

I did 30 min on the elliptical and our regular weight training (usually takes me 30 min) Week one and two were 2 sets of 12 reps each. Week three and on will be 3 sets of 12 reps. If that gets to easy we up the weights. SO far it's NOT so easy! I have also started a food diary. Keeping track of EVERYTHING I eat will help me keep track of calories in/calories out. I want to KNOW how much weight I'm going to lose each week. Right now it should be between 2 and 3 lbs a week if I figured it out right. That is with 1600 calories and 30 min of reg moderate exercise. I can tell you this...I'm thinking I'm doing more of the excessive exercise the way I'm feeling lol! According to the exercise charts it's considered "moderate" :P '.'. Oh well!

The gym will be closed on Sunday and Monday for Memorial day break. I'm thankful now that I have the 24 hr gym to go to. I will have to use that on Monday. I don't exercise on Sat and Sun YET... I think I will have to go down on hours worked (11-12 hours each day) at work in order to do that. And right now that's not possible. Even though I don't go to the gym I'm getting pretty good exercise at work. I mean I DID lose my first 20 lbs just adding work and not changing anything else so It should be a good source of exercise for the weekends. The big thing is I have to keep control of my eating there. I can't eat the candy bars or the chips anymore like I did before. I just have to make healthier choices. They have fruit and even steamed veggies If I choose so there is NO excuse. Just have to be firm! I will do well this weekend! I WILL!

TEN whole days!

Can you believe it? I can't! LOL Out of those 10 days I exercised all but two so far. I am really loving the exercise even though I have sweat dripping from my head while doing it :D It's hard, it's not SUPER fun, it's not even relaxing but I do love it. I remember in my young days I was addicted to exercise and I HAD to exercise every day no matter what!

Well after losing 20 lbs since starting work (I was in the early 290's when I started work back in October of 2008...thanks Christopher for catching that error ;) ) I had to go to an 18-20 pants instead of the 22-24 like I was in before. NOW today I tried on the 22-24 after wearing only my 18-20's for two weeks and they feel even bigger :D I'm getting rid of all of them and starting over with 18-20 sizes only. The weird thing is I'm still in a bigger top! I know my bust is bigger and I can't WAIT for IT to shrink so hopefully after a few months that will change as well. I'm still buying 22-24 shirts...sometimes 26! What the heck!?

Hubby told me today that I can go buy a few more pants to hold me over until I have to go down again to the next size ;) MWAHAHAHA I'm feeling good about this! So anyway...I went to the gym this morning and we did the usual workout plus added the extra 10 min of cadio. I found a new elliptical that does NOT make my toes fall asleep :D (did I tell you that last time?) SO I do 20 min on one and 10 on the other and sometimes I even hit the treadmill for 5 min all at close to my max heartrate :D (treadmill is at 3.0 mph and the elliptical is right around 4.0 now...started out at 2.9! Big improvement just over a week and 1/2. I am also getting a mile in before my 20 min mark now :D I am SO proud of that. I'm sweating like a crazy person and my face is red as a beet when I'm done but I feel good afterward! Nic was kind of scared when my face was so red LOL He told me he didn't like that face. HEHE
Ok off to Fashion Bug to shop! I have a coupon too :DDDDD Talk to you all tomorrow.
OH BTW hubby lost 12 lbs! He's riding bike almost every night now. And I also had an amazing breakfast buritto I made myself. Scrambled eggs, onions, salsa on a buritto shell. YUM

Day Nine

Went to the gym again this morning :D The bad thing is I only lost 2 lbs this week and I was so hoping for more. It sucks that I exercise this much and only lost 2 lbs. Although I have to remember that I didn't change much about my eating habits so when that changes I should see more of a lose. This Mon and Tue I added 10 min to my normal time so that was a plus! Plus we are still doing the weight machines. Today my legs were very sore as well as yesterday. I must be doing something right! The kids have all been ok at daycare too :D Well, it's late and I have to get up early to get to the gym again so I better get some sleep!

Day Eight

Still going strong here. Went to the gym again this morning and did more then last week :D I did 20 on the elliptical, went on the treadmill for 10 and then back on a different elliptical for another 10. Warm up and cool down both 5 min. We did weight lifting today too (worked out the bottom half). Tomorrow will be the upper half. Then had to work from 3-11 tonight so I'm tired. Just wanted to get this in here so I remember what how much I did and the increase. I increased it by 15 min today. I also got a mile in before my 20 min was up and last week it took me an extra 3 min to get to that mile mark.
Oh I found a great new juice that I love and it's healthy for you. It's called "Naked" and I LOVE the Berry blast. Very good for you but it needs to stay refrigerated because it's made from real fruit and has no preservatives in it.

Either way...I think it's day five. Well today was like the others...got up early and we were at the gym by 9:30 our regular time. Did the upper body workout with the weights (I believe there are seven machines) Possibly eight. can't remember...Heather, do you remember? Anyway after that I did the 20 min cardio workout...later on that will increase to 30 and then 40 etc until I reach an hour every day. I'm hoping to get up to 5 miles a day and I do 1 right now. I feel that's pretty good for someone who weighs 275. Oh yes, by the way that IS my correct exact weight. I'm ashamed to admit that but it's true and on Monday morning I weight in to see how much I lost. Remember, I have not changed a lot of how I eat either...just adding the workout every day. I'm not expecting a big lose since I am adding muscle. I do plan on getting my body fat tested so I can see the difference in that.
Today we are cleaning...company coming tomorrow. I also have to TRY to get to bed early today since I have to get up at 2:30am to get ready for work. There will be no gym tomorrow unless I go after work to the 24 hour gym...it's smaller but still can get the same workout. I may fall asleep on the elliptical but I may try it. Depends on what time I get to bed tonight I guess. Sunday is a for sure rest day. I need it! It's also that time of month and i'm extra tired from that. Can't wait till that's over with.
Starting to feel a little better. So far the knee has been just a little sore at the end of the night but when I wake up it's fine.
This morning Hubby told me I should maybe stay home and work on getting the house picked up but then a few minutes later he come in by me and said you can go to the gym...your health means a lot more to me then a clean house. I was pleased to hear him say that because then I didn't have to feel guilty going. I was going either way but at least with him saying that It put my mind at ease...and I knew he wasn't going to be mad at me for going. It's not like the house is a TOTAL disaster area either it's just messy. Hubby is also doing a good job helping with his part of the house work...something he really never had to do before but now that I'm working full time it's too hard for me to do it all. He's really been helpful. He even did some laundry :D He does the dishes a lot and picks up around the house...it's sure is nice coming home to a house that isn't a pig sty. He's been working on his weight also and has fixed his bike up and has been riding. His plan is to be able to ride to work and back. It's about 25 miles to his work from our house. Well, I better get back to the cleaning! Talk to you all prob on Monday. Have a great weekend :D

Day four

Today was not a gym day BUT I sure got a work out. I mowed lawn (not all of it but we have a huge lawn) Stefan will mow the rest when he comes home for the weekend. Then I cleaned all the chicken coops out. Hauled really huge heavy bags of pine shavings. And cleaned up the yard some. That in itself made me pretty darn tired. Tomorrow morning I will hit the gym again and then come home to clean the INSIDE of the house. Sat and Sun I will most likely not post as I have to get up at 2:30 am to get ready for work and I'm not home until 3pm and by that time I'm SO tired! We will also have company and I have to keep an eye on the boys until they go to bed. I hope that is early because I have to get up at 2:30 am on Sunday as well LOL I'm going to be sleeping all day on Monday to catch up. Well, it's time to get some laundry in and jump in the shower and head to bed. Will update tomorrow again. Thanks for reading! :D

Day Three

Another day at the gym. A total of a little over 2 hours. I actually went twice today...once in the AM and once to watch American Idol :D So far so good and it's been FUN too. My niece's little one did cry for 1/2 hour today...don't know why she decided to on the third day and not the first two but who knows. She's going to bring her tomorrow again anyhow. We will see how that goes.
Now I just have to get my eating down. I haven't changed anything yet...well, I shouldn't say that. I have been eating less of the regular thing I usually eat. I have even ate out twice but had smaller portions and different things like a grilled chicken rather then a double cheese burger.

I am planning on a few changes here coming up. For example...instead of eating a bagel with cream cheese for breakfast, I'm going to be eating Fiber One. I need more fiber in my life. That will be one of my first changes. Of course with all the chickens in my life I'm not going to omit eggs by any means either. Eggs are good for ya and I'm gunna eat um! I usually eat two and two pieces of toast so that will now be brought down to one and one piece of toast. Another change I already did was drink less soda and today instead of bread for my sandwich I had flat out bread. Which was really good. Little changes will help me in the long run.
Toes still fell asleep after twenty min of elliptical...what I did then is do 20 on the elliptical and switch to the treadmill and then switched back to the elliptical. Must be how I'm standing on the thing. I did get my starting weight and got measurements as well. I will post those tomorrow evening. Heading to bed early tonight so I can get up early. I just hope my knees continue to cooperate with me. The left one gets a little sore at the end of the day but by morning it seems to be fine. Next week I will start adding my menus in here because I need to keep track of it.

Day Two

Well, today was sort of like a repeat of yesterday. Got up early, got ready, went to the gym. Did lower body weights and we also did 20 on the elliptical and of course warm up and cool down. It was harder then the day before. I made the mistake of telling our trainer that we lowered our weights. LOL Now he will probably keep a close eye on us. It was just WAY harder then it was when he showed us the machines. My upper body is still sore today and today was a rest day for the upper. Tomorrow we do the weight training for the upper body so I can only imagine what it will feel like tomorrow evening. At least I dont work.
The bad thing is...my toes fell asleep after doing 20 min on the elliptical. That has to be bad right?? I'm hoping after I work out a while that it will go away.
I'm eating less but not stopping all bad foods. I need to take it slow and hope that will work for me better then just jumping into and trying to be perfect. I just eat less of everything that I would normally eat and tonight my stomach is even growling so I know I ate less today. I'm going to go have some water and watch the biggest loser finale and see who won. I was at work and I DVRed my show. Now I just have to get hubby away from watching whatever cartoon he's watching LOL OH and my daddy even skipped his show so my American Idol would tape! How sweet is that huh! He knew I REEALLY wanted to see it and the other DVR is in his room since he pays for cable. So BOTH my shows taped tonight. I'm a HAPPY person tonight. I went to the gym TWO days in a row and I get to watch both my shows tonight :D Hope everyone is doing well tonight. I will update on how I did tomorrow. Wish me luck!

How did day ONE go??

Well, started out the day getting up at 7am (usual time) and Nic of course wants to run around naked for the first half hour. Don't really know WHY he likes to do this, he just does. Anyway...forgot already that we had an apt with our trainer to learn about the machines so when I did remember had to fly around the house getting things done and get out the door by 9am with Nic DRESSED. Met my niece there and her kids. Took all the kids to the daycare center there in the gym (it's free) and we head to meet our trainer. He was GREAT...older but very "in shape" and knew what he was talking about. He showed us all the machines and made us work every one of them. That took just short of an hour. Then we went to the cardio machines and working out for 20 min there...treadmill and elliptical (My personal favorite) Love that machine! Went home...did laundry and jumped in the shower. Got ready for work was out the door by 2pm on my way to work after dropping NIc at grandmas. I stopped at Target before work to buy some things I needed first. After a few hours at work I started feeling the results of our workout! LOL Folding laundry was twice as hard and now at 11:30 pm it's really hurting. I can't wait until tomorrow! Were doing it all over tomorrow except this time were doing the REAL working not just a training one. OH so I should hurt twice as much tomorrow night right??! LOL Oh the joy! I do love the gym and I have really missed it. I'm glad to be back! NOW I just have to stay there!!!

I'm here to tell you about that surprise now :D A few months back I said I had a big surprise that I would share with you all. It was a while back so I'm not sure that you all will remember.

Today I did something that may save my life. I joined the gym :0 Can you believe it!? The main reason I did this was because I am feeling like total crap and don't want to do anything. I hate going to work, I hate having to do housework, I hate having to take my son to his playgroup every Wed afternoon, I hate not fitting in booths at the restaurant, I REALLY hate not being able to jog like I did when I was MUCH younger, I hate wondering what people are thinking of me, I hate feeling like crap! So I thought the only way I'm going to FEEL better is to do something about this weight. I have to do it...either that or I have to get my butt to the doctor and get on meds because I'm sure my cholesterol is SKY HIGH. I do need to make an apt to get that checked anyhow just to be sure. And I will. In fact tomorrow I will make the apt for that. I just need to get my life in check and be sure that my 4 yr old has a mother in 10 years. Here I am at 40 worrying that I"m going to die of a heart attack or a stoke. That's way to young to have to worry about that.
Well, tomorrow is our first day working out (I joined with my niece) and It's a training day. Our trainer is going to show us how to use the equipment and give us an hour long work out. This will be at 9:30 am Then I do have to go to work from 3-11 and that in itself will be a huge test becasue they have BAD BAD stuff for sale in our mini store.
Another thing I have to do is get on here and at least make an entry three times a week so I can keep track of things. I need to make up some menus and get a plan in place for myself. I may work on some of that tonight. I AM very tired...I took on a driving position at work too so now on weekends I get up at 2:30am to go to work and I work until 3pm in the afternoon. I'm very tired tonight...shouldn't be hard to stay away from food tonight :D I have started as of this evening so watch for updates and see how I do. I will give you my weight when I weight in at the doctor...or the gym. One or the other.

In chicken news...My silkie is FINALLY broody so I'm sticking four eggs under her because I want to see what type of mother she will be. I need a GOOD broody, not one that will eat her babies. I will keep you informed as to how that goes too. Hope everyone is having a great week.

Well, I don't believe it is here! It's been right about 25 every morning when I get up to let the chickens out. Then it warms up to about 35 or so in the day. Just sucks! It's been like this all week. I'm sick of winter now. We still have snow piles everywhere yet! A few days ago we had a snow storm...threw 2 inches of snow on us. This week is SAYS were suppose to get up to 49 all week but we will see.

Well, remember the bantam cochins I had in the incubator? I have four beautiful babies! Here they are: I have been told they will possibly be blues. They have a chance to be blacks as well...I'm hoping for blue. From the looks of it I may have all blues :D

Remember the chicks that the mommy hen was eating? Here are two of the ones I saved. The little brown one was a second from being swallowed down. She almost didn't make it. She had a bloody spot on her back and wasn't moving for the longest time after hatch :( She is just great today :D

Remember the tiny chick that was stuck in his shell for four days back in Nov? I had to hatch him out totally myself? Well, here HE is today! He's HUGE! And he's only 5 mos old. He still has lots of growing to do. He's a blue orpington:

Work has really been tiring lately. I have had SO much laundry to do it's been nuts. I take a 15 min break for dinner and then it's back to work. I'm getting used to standing and walking for 8 hours straight that's for sure! Maybe I should take up jogging again? LOL

Well, no movie reviews becasue we don't have time for movies anymore! :( Were all good and healthy here so that's a good thing. This thursday we go to Stefan's track meet.
Stefan graduates in June! Then he's off to college. He goes early becasue of football practice. After he leaves, the next time we see him will be Thanksgiving/Christmas area. It will be the longest ever I have not seen him. It's going to be so hard and I'm going to go WAY more grey then I already am with worry!
We got his report card this week and so far it's been all A's and B's this semester :D

OH one more thing...we had our first cull Monday :( It was our White crested black polish girl Shelby :( She got really sick and wasn't able to come out of it so it was more humane then letting her suffer. IT was SO sad. I felt bad for hubby...he's the one who had to do it. We don't like that part of having chickens.

Not SO much laundry today. I got it all done and the Auditor comes in and he says. You kick ass at laundry LOL He's bummed that I don't work the next few days. Anyhow, I have another baby that hatched so the tiny one has a friend :D AND the third egg is pipped and complaining in the shell. I'm hoping to have another baby in the morning. The other two are out of the incubator and eating and drinking well. I can rest knowing they will all be ok now :D That one is just SO tiny! She is a bantam and the other chick is twice her size. It's just adorable. They are very nice to each other though :D Tomorrow is a clean day for sure. I have LOTS to do around here. Yesterday and the day before I did nothing but spend time with Nic and the chickens. He loves going out to the hen house with me. Although Steele (my cochin rooster) has kicked him twice now on the back. I told Nic the second time he did it to kick him back (not hard but enough to scare him) so he knows who's boss. He hasn't done it since. I do NOT allow Nic in the hen house without me becasue many kids get hurt around roosters. Nic is so jumpy I can see how Steele sees him as a threat to his hens. He's VERY protective with them. Nic now knows to move slowly around the chickens and to go in to get the eggs and move on out of there. Steele just ignores me totally. He never tried that sort of thing with me. I can pick him up and he's totally fine. He's my big baby for sure :D
Well, I better get my butt to bed. Nic is up early in the morning and I can see already I'm going to be VERY tired tomorrow! It's already 1:30 am. OH BTW Kallie...I DO work this weekend both Sat and Sun :( Otherwise I would have taken a ride over there. It's been a LONG time since I have been there. Whats going on that you are there this weekend?

For more then just one reason!~ First of all the worst part of my day. I was looking out our window (our main floor is up on the second level) and was watching the chickens. I noticed that they had what looked like a mouse that they were fighting over and eating. I went down to see what all the commotion was and see what the heck they were eating. When I got down there I couldn't see anything right away because they are quick and one has it then the next second another hen has it. They play keep away. Then when I finally seen it I noticed it was a CHICK! YES, a dead chick...it had probably been alive at one time though :( Then I went to the hen house to see how many eggs were left. There were three! We had SIX so I'm assuming three were ate by the naughty hens. I then heard chirping under the hen. She went all crazy when she heard that and began pecking at the egg...she hatched it out in two pecks and was trying to eat it! I grabbed it away from her and ran it in the house and after getting all the pine shavings off of it I put it in the incubator with the eggs I have in there. It was not doing the best and not moving. Just kind of dazed. I had to go to work so I had to just leave it and hope it would be ok. It had been picked on the back and was bleeding :( Poor thing! I then took the other two remaining eggs out of her nest and she was NOT pleased with me. She kept jumping on my shoulder and scolding me.
I got to work (already worried that my chick would die) and walk in and there is a CRAZY amount of laundry to do. Two heaping piles taller then ME! They fired our laundry person at work to save money so now we get all of the work ourselves. So I get to work on that which was NOT what I wanted to do tonight for sure. I will have the same tomorrow too! SEVEN hours of JUST laundry and I had nine walk ins and a bunch of reservations to check in in-between all the laundry. It was just not a good night.
So then when I got home I went right in the check on the baby and it was MUCH better! :D It's now walking a bit and dried off and its eyes finally opened. They seemed stuck shut before so that was the highlite of my night. And another good thing...I have another pip from one of the eggs I grabbed out from under her. Another that would have been lunch for the hens. I learned a hard lesson tonight. DO NOT allow hens to hatch eggs around bigger hens. She was not a good mother at all. I'm hoping my silkie hens will be better at this.

OK I'm tired and I need sleep so i will get going but just wanted to update you all and let you know I'm still alive. I hope everyone had a great week. Sorry I have not been around to anyones journal lately. I have just been so busy with working full time and trying to take care of the chickens and Nic. It's a full time PLUS job for me lately. I still love my chickens though and I would not trade that part of my life for anything.

Well, we picked up our silkies Sat and they are the CUTEST things ever! The people we got them from were very friendly. I could have stayed there for hours just talking with them and looking at their animals but hubby and Nic wanted to get home so I had to leave :( I ended up with a white, blue, and two splash :D I'm SO happy. I went there for three but they threw in the white for free because she had a curved toe which I'm going to try to fix :D
These babies are very active and fun to watch. I have them in the house right now becasue Nic didn't want them out in the shed LOL I have the food and water low enough so Nic can take care of them on his own and he's been doing a fantastic job!
On the way home he named them: HAHA Wait until you here this!

I asked him, Nic what do you want to name the white one. He says "Snowy" Ok that's a good name! What do you want to name the others He says sockey, pantsy, and shirtsy! LOLOL Ok hun they are your birds but are you sure you want to name them that? He says YUP! So there you have it. We have Snowy, Sockey, Pantsy, and Shirtsy. HUH well the good news is it doesn't matter who's male or female they can keep their names.
Ok so no pics yet. Hubby is gone for another two days for work. I will have him download pics for me when he gets home.
I had to move my bad girl Polish hen out of the orp pen because she was not letting my young splash hen eat. I picked her up and she was SO thin :( I put Shelby out in the shed in her own pen for now. The splash is doing MUCH better! Thank goodness I caught that before she got sick. I tried Shelby out in the big hen...she is tortured out there by the big hens...I tried her in with the silkies She pics on them terribly, then my last hope was in with the orps (they are bigger then her I though it would work out) no such luck! Oh well...will have to try polish another time but right now I'm looking for a home for her. She is SO sweet and follows us around the yard too :( I will miss her terribly!
Well, I better get my butt to bed. Have work tomorrow and Tuesday yet. Today wasn't to bad..I worked the morning shift which goes by faster. Plus I had a laundry person there to help me do laundry. I still did a lot of it but I had help. I will talk to you all later :D

THIS is great news for us! I am so excited for him. WOOT! Now I have to get used to NOT being able to see him every weekend :( That will by far be the hardest part. He has to leave even earlier because he was asked before to be on the football team there so practice starts before school.

Well it's acting more like it now. It almost got up to 40 today! There were people out in shorts and t-shirts today which is quit normal for around her. When the temps start hitting 40 and the sun is shining then we know it's ok to pull out the shorts. I wasn't one of those people but I did have my short pants on today. We didn't need to put on our big winter jackets which was nice. We just wore sweaters.

Well, tomorrow we are heading out to get our silkies! :D Well, Nic's silkies. I will take pictures when we get home. We will most likely be gone for most of the day. Then it's back to work on Sunday. Well, I better get my butt upstairs...nic wants me to open his Batman set he payed for himself. He's very excited so I better go. Talk to you all later.

What would excite me?? Well, more chickens what else! LOL I happened along an ad...someone is selling really nice quality silkies (some of the best in the US) and I GOT SOME! Or I should say am getting some!
Now what my plan is is to have Nic show these chickens. Maybe get him involved with a 4 H group because he loves animals as much as I do and it would be a wonderful project for both of us. I'm not sure at what age they can join but I'm sure I seen a little girl around Nic's age carrying around one of her winning birds at a show close to us and she was in a 4H group. It was SO darn cute and ever since then I thought that Nic and I had to do that. I'm taking Nic to the next show we go to. Just to see how he does. He's only 4 so he doesn't have a lot of patience yet. We have years with these birds so if it doesn't work out this year for him there is always next year. Plus I believe the birds have to be so many months old before you can even show them anyhow.

Work was interesting last night...got to see a drug dog in action :D That was pretty cool. One of our business men had a complaint on them. They tried to buy drugs off someone and that someone followed them to our hotel. Cops came and found very little pot on them. Enough for personal use is all. Never heard anything else because I didn't even see the cops leave. I was busy in the back doing laundry.

Well, better get back to work around home...I have to go to work at 3 again today. Just wanted to share the silkie info :D I will take pics of course!

I was tagged on Cassey's journal and I WILL get to that tonight after work or in the a.m. ...I only have a little while before work and I have to try to get the darn dishes done before I go. I'm waiting for laundry now so I thought I would quick to a little entry.

I candled my eggs in the hen house (Izzy my broody is sitting on eight eggs) They are ALL alive! She was sitting on ten a few days ago...she ate one (I'm thinking it was bad) and then one was not fertile so I removed it. I also have the bantam cochins in the incubator and those will be candled in five days. I set them the last day of Feb so March first is day one. Of course it takes 21 days for them to hatch.

Everyone is good here..just been VERY busy and anxious for spring to make an appearance for once. It's been zero here or close to it the last few days and it's getting OLD! I hope thursday and friday are better days...I have those days off of work. I think I have sat off too! *fingers crossed*
I do love my job and once I get there it's totally fine but just getting there is the hard part. I don't want to leave Nic and the chickens ever! LOL It's even going to be harder in spring when the days are longer. I'm going to LONG for home then I just know it. I remember working a few years ago and looking out the window about 9pm...it was still light out and I SO wanted to just go home and sit on our deck and watch the sun set. Well, better get those dishes done. At least the chickens are all watered and fed ready for the day. Steele has been outside crowing his crazy head off but I LOVE hearing him. He has the most unique crow ever. I can't wait to open the windows so I can hear him better. Talk to you all later ;) And Cassey, thanks for the tag :D

Well, first of all before I forget...Kallie...I work right next door to that waterpark LOL they should come over there first if I'm working if they go again. I can get them cheap tickets to get into the waterpark ;)

Next...since I started working last October (I think I started in the middle of the month) I have lost 15 lbs! And I have NOT changed anything I eat in that time. It's not alot for that amount of time but at the same time it IS becasue I did not have to diet to do it LOL! So now I have decided to stop all soda to boost that weight loss a bit and still be able to eat the same way. We will see how that goes for me. One thing..I have a headache from HE** and I hate it! It's major caffeine withdrawal and It's awful! Especially at work when I have so much to do. I should be in bed now but I wanted to get an entry in this week.

On to the next...I have a broody hen and I have decided to give her some eggs to sit on. She has eight under her right now :D She would take more if I set them in front of her! I just simply set them next to her and she takes them with her beak and pushes them WAY under her. It's so adorably CUTE! My dad had mentioned that he had never seen a hen hatch out babies and would really love to see that before he dies. He's 82 so I figured this spring would be a good time for all of us so I did it! My hubby is ok with that because of the fact my dad would love to see it :) So I put four mutt chickens and 4 pure D'uccle eggs under her. We will see what happens in 20 days (she has been on them for a day already).

Then...what else did I do? Well, a friend of mine knew how much I wanted bantam blue cochins SOOO she put a bid on a thread on BYC for me and WON! I am getting eggies sent to me tomorrow! I have to get the incubator heated up and ready for these :D Don't ask me how I will do all this and still work full time becasue I have NO clue! LOL I just know I'm going to. Heck yesterday I forgot to eat lunch... and I just don't forget to eat! LOL That's just not like me ;)
Tomorrow I work 12 hours and then I get a day off on wed! Can't wait for that!

Last...I will be sure to take some pictures for you nonchicken people soon ;) I still have not been able to get to many journals :( I miss that the most when it comes to working full time. I miss you guys! Thanks for still stopping over even though I have not commented on your journals! Ok, well...I better get to bed. I'm tires and Nic will have me up at 6am I'm sure! Love you guys!

I finally got hubby to add those pics for me so I can share them with you. If your not chicken people well, I will try to find other pics too. I also have some news that I can't remember if I shared with you all...and two movie reviews too. First we will start with the news. I think I told you that Stefan had been on homecoming court and that he had been listed as "All American" in football? But I don't think I told you that he got a recruit letter from Gallaudet University! They want him to play football there :D After they see his transcripts from his other school there will most likely be a scholarship involved in this :D The only problem is...Stefan is deaf and he has problems understanding the english writing. So with that, he had problems understanding the directions to the SAT tests. SO his score was lower then it should have been compared to his grades in school. He is an A B student in all his classes so he's very smart when he understands what the directions are. So were trying to see what can be done so he can take some prep classes so his test scores will improve. It sucks and he didn't' want to have to take them again but he will have to so his scores are where they are suppose to be. We have sent the transcripts over and sent his fees to the school to get started. It's in Washington DC so it's SO far away and I'm not going to like it but I know he will love it there. He told me the other night that he had a bad dream. I asked him what it was about and he said he had a dream he was back in his old school and he hated it. The only thing he misses at his old school is wrestling and his coach. I'm SO glad he talked us into letting him go. I didn't want to...I hesitated and really didn't want him to go but now I'm glad I did. In fact he didn't even come home this last weekend because he went home with a good friend of his. He's just really bloomed over there! So now that you know I"m happy about that I will get on with the next. PICS

We have I THINK decided to side it with regular siding rather then paint it. It's going to be closer to the road where people will see it so we don't want it looking like an old shed lol. We will prob side the big hen house later on too. AND hubby says he MAY just make another coop for me! I would LOVE to have another coop just like this one so I can have four different breeding breeds :D I think he loves me ;) Now we have coop one (unnamed yet) and coop two (Autumn Breeze). I still have bantam cochins and my silkies in his computer shed yet so I told him another coop just like this one would be perfect ;) I'm going to try to get pics of Stefan when he comes home this next weekend with Nic so I will add those. Alex was over yesterday and I forgot to grab some pics of her! I was so mad. Anyway....now on to the movies:

We watched "Fireproof" and that movie was awesome! If you don't believe in god it's not a good show for you but if you do...it is a fantastic movie! I do so it was fantastic ;) It's a good movie to watch with your young teen boys and your hubby. You both learn so much from this movie. I highly recommend this movie!

We also watched "The Secret Life of Bees" with Dakota Fanning and she was great in this movie. VERY good movie also and I give it three thumbs up! She plays a 14 yr old girl and I won't tell you anymore except she does get her first on screen kiss in this movie. So cute! I can't believe she has grown up so much already!

Well I have to get back to cleaning before I head to work today. I will talk with you all soon :D

It's been a while!

Hi all...just wanted to let everyone know I'm still alive. We still have not got our apple computer because were waiting for the new one to come out. Once that is here I will be posting more often because its upstairs where I am most of the time. Anyway...work has been busy (I'm on 40 hours a week) and it's been a tough time getting used to the airline crew we have in They have a contract with us every day for a year. I'm getting used to it now but boy it was a battle at first. They are awesome people so that helps! Everyone here is fine...I'm taking some pics of my new babies later today and finally get some on here of our new finished banatam coop which is STILL in the garage. We figure we may as well leave it be until the snow melts. It's only in the single digits today again! We did have one day that was FORTY! That was nice! I have to go around and do rounds later today and see how Lori's grandbaby is I bet she is getting BIG! And I have to check in on Kelly and her chickens! I miss yoU! And Missie and Helen and many others I used to read every day but now can't seem to find the time! SORRY! I really miss my old life when I had time to read for an hour or two a day! On the brighter note...we are doing SO well on getting our CC bills paid off it's amazing. It's been hard not buying what I want when I want but it will all be worth it. THAT is the main reason I went to work and it's paid off. I won't even need to work anymore after Dec of this year if I don't want to. I may go to part time though... maybe, but I don't know if I will quit. I LOVE the people at work and the guests that come in. Were a long term stay hotel so the guests that come through our doors stay for months at a time and you really get to know them. I made two wonderful friends...Sarah and Vicky, the only girls who are staying long term (most are men) and one of them has a boxer :D She brings it down when her boyfriend brings him in. There is also a cook who comes in often and cooks for everyone! He brings down really nice meals for us :D Then there is a very friendly doctor who comes down to chat computer with me. He would LOVE to learn more about computers but is afraid of them. Once I told him my hubby was a computer wiz he's been hooked lol. Vicky is leaving next week so I will really miss her. After work she comes down and chats with me for an hour...gives me a break from laundry!
So anyway, life has been fine...everyone healthy and the chickens are healthy except they look terrible from the rooster! I'm buying saddles for next year so that doesn't happen again. Not to mention my big boy will have spurs by then. OUCH for the hens! He sure is a mating fool! My new blue and splash orps are beautiful! I LOVE them. He's crowing now and sounds so cute! Well, I better get off here and get to the dishes. I have a day off today so I have to try to get some cleaning done. I got the basement sparkling, now I just have to work on the upstairs. THEN we are finally going to take in a movie. BOY, it's been a long time since I just sat and watched tv for a few hours. Were watching the new Dakota Fanning movie. I hope this finds everyone well!

Oh it feels so much better out there and the hens are more active today. I could take the electric heater out of their coop. The two heat lamps can keep up with this weather. It's about 11 degrees here now! WOO HOO It's a heat wave! LOL
I have the weekend off work and this next week I work 7-5 day shift so I will be home at night. The day shift person is on vacation so I got her house next week. I work four days all 10 hours each. I would rather do that then work five days. We will be dragging that coop outside real soon so watch for movies of that. I still did not get my pictures on here but I'm going to try to have DH do it this evening. Well, right now he wants to watch a movie so I better head upstairs for now. Talk at ya all later! Missie...just know that -25 is COLD! LOL you walk outside and when you breath in your nostrils will stick together. My hand was wet and it actually stuck to the door knob.

More cancellations

Schools were cancelled again for tomorrow. It's going to hit -25 or maybe lower tonight again with crazy wind chills to boot! I'm sure all the kids are loving the cold because they don't have to go to school.
The neighbours looked at me a little strange when I ran out to the hen house to put the heater out there to warm them up a bit. The reason they looked at me a little crazy is because I had shorts on and a big jacket. LOL I just got out of the shower and I just throw shorts and a t-shirt on until Its time to get ready for work. I don't want to get my clothes all dirty before work. It was cold, yes it was! I'm pretty sure I won't do that again.
I'm feeling a little better today so training wasn't so bad tonight. The girl I am training is opening up a bit to me now. She seemed so shy! My boss said that's why I am training her because I am so outgoing that he's sure I will rub off on her! I asked him "why, because I can never keep my mouth shut for 5 min!" LOL Now, this is NOT how I was when I was young. I was SO shy when I was younger. Then I met Cory! It's his fault I'm a big mouth now. I blame him totally!
Well, the hens made it through the night last night...I did change the heat bulb today because they seem to get cooler and cooler the older they get. Now it's a nice hot bulb. This morning when I went out there, their water was froze even though the heat lamp was right over the top of it. Now, THAT Is cold! I hope it's not froze again tomorrow...the thing weighs a TON the way it is and add ice to it makes it even worse. It holds three gallons of water. I should have prob put the electric heater in there tonight but I'm not going out there again tonight. I hear the wind and it's not so inviting. I'm heading off to bed. Hope you all are well :D AND STAY WARM!

All schools cancelled in our area.

It is COLD! It's -25 with -55 degree wind chills here. Schools were cancelled for tomorrow already by this afternoon. Boy I can't wait until the warmer weather blows in. 28 is going to feel like a heat wave next week! I just got in from the shed and getting the wood stove nice and hot for the babies and on my way back to the house my nostrils stuck together. Reminded me of the good ol days when we would walk a mile or so to school LOL Poor Max couldn't walk...his poor feet were sticking to the ground LOL He sure didn't go far to potty. Cubby has so much fur he doesn't even bat an eye when he goes out side in this stuff. I just hope my hens in the big coop are ok tonight. They have two heat lamps out there and the coop is well insulated so I think they will be fine. I have one hen who is pulling out her own feathers because she is broody and is lining the nest. Right now she is laying on nothing. We took the egg she was laying on but she is still in the nest growling her fool head off LOL Her neck is bare because she pulled out all her feathers where she could reach. Silly fool bird. I take her out and she jumps right back in. If she is still in there tomorrow I may have to put her in a cage and put her in with the bantams until her broodiness is broken. I hear that works well. I wouldn't mind her being broody if it was spring...heck I would let her lay on all sorts of eggs ;) Ok well, time for bed. I have a cold and 1/2 and I'm feeling just miserable. Training the new girl tomorrow should be a joy! Oh we DID get a movie in and it was really good. Can't remember the name off hand...it was Angelina Jolie (the new one she is in) OH "WANTED" is the name. Very good movie...filled with action and even some comedy in the beginning. Two thumbs up! Night everyone :D

A day off work!

Today is a good day. I finally get a day off work. I have to work tomorrow and Friday again but today I have off! I finished painting the first coat of the Bantam coop I got a sign made out of 100 yr old barn wood with a picture of a D'uccle painted on it from a member on BYC :D and it says Autumn Breeze on top and D'uccle on the bottom. I took a picture but DH will have to upload them here for me. The guys were busy this last weekend so no pics yet :( As soon as they come out with the new apple computer we will be ordering that for his business but until then, I am stuck with this one. I hate it, but it gets me on the net. I would so love to put siding on this coop instead of paining it. But we just don't have the extra money right now. It looks good either way :D I didn't do a fantastic job painting inside but it will work. Chickens don't care and as long as I can control bugs from living in the wood I'm ok. The floor gets another coat of paint and then we have to wait three days for it to air out and finally the chickens go in. They will be MUCH happier in their new home seeing it's much bigger. AND I have less waterers and feeders to fill each day. Right now I have 14 of them to check each day...all but two need to be filled every day. The bigger ones every other day. It's easier in the summer...I can fill them and clean them right outside. Now we have to take each on into the laundry room and clean them and fill them in the house. PLUS not to mention they all have to stay thawed in this -20 degree temps we have been having. So we have heat lamps out in the hen house and the wood stove going 24/7 in the shed where we have the others in individual cages.
BUT I don't even mind...I love the chickens and they ARE so very sweet :D And hubby has been helping me alot with them them too. Last night I didn't have to load the wood stove or feed/water anyone. Hubby had it all done for me :D I would take that over house cleaning any day. It saves me from freezing outside at 11:30 at night to make sure everyone is ok.

Well, tonight I THINK were going to try to get in a movie. We tried Saturday night but I fell asleep at 7:30 which is NOT like me. I was just exhausted. All the other night I worked until 11:00 pm and when I get home DH is already in bed. So I will get those pics on here asap...until then I hope everyone is having a great week :D See ya soon with pics!

Oh and BTW us humans are all good here as well ;) I'm full of oil based paint and filled with smelly Kerosene fumes and I have a cold...but alright :D Just glad to get that big job out of the way. Now it's just waiting and the guys take over trying to pull that huge thing outdoors! Time to go make dinner (potato burgers) and take a quick shower before our movie.

Our Bantam coop is awesome! The only thing left to do is paint and it's done! My FIL is thinning the paint so we can spray it on rather than roll it. MUCH faster. We have the heater going in there now so it's nice and toasty warm. The garage is also heated up nicely :D Tonight when I get home from work I will be working on the brooder box. YES, working on it at 11:30 pm! I AM crazy! But I have to get it done. I have to at least get the wood cut for it tonight. The birds have spilled their water WAY to many times and I need to get them out of that box.

Janis asked about the difference in the eggs. There is no difference on the taste UNLESS you go from store eggs to farm fresh. THEN we notice a HUGE difference. The nutritional value is WAY higher in farm fresh eggs VS store eggs. Mostly because the store eggs come from hens that are ONLY feed chicken feed. Where farm fresh eggs are fed "REAL" food. During the summer they get most of their nutrition by grazing on the plants and grasses a chicken SHOULD be eating. The get some "people" food too. Minus all the flavourings of course. When I fry eggs for my birds I NEVER add any salt or flavourings...just the eggs. Same with pancakes. Yesterday they got pancakes for breakfast and LOVED them! It was something new I tried. So once every couple days I will switch from eggs to pancakes. Hens can eat almost anything people can eat without the salts in them. NO onion or uncooked potato peels though. They LOVE meat, yogurt, pumpkin and their all time favourite thing to eat is watermelon. My hens get black oil sunflower seeds every other day as well. Very little cracked corn as that is "candy" for them and not all that good for them either. They DO love it though! They know when I come with my white bucket and call "here chick chick" they come running! I can't even try to sneak it in so I can actually WALK through their house to set it down lol they are around my feet and I practically have to step on them to get from one side to the other.
OH one other thing we tried this fall was whole pumpkin. We cracked it open and let them at it. At first they looked and looked thinking OK what the heck is THIS! Than once one took a taste they were all in there going at it. It was gone in 10 min! And pumpkin is a natural medicine to treat for worms without using antibiotics (which is another thing our store eggs are filled with). Something you don't want to be feeding your kids. Farm fresh eggs are free from all antibiotics (at least MINE are) Some people may give their birds antibiotics if needed but we don't plan to unless we have NO other choice. In which case they will be taken out of the egg business and we will not sell their eggs again to anyone. We will only sell eggs from hens who have never had a dose of antibiotics.
So there you have it...if you google farm fresh eggs vs Store eggs I'm sure there will be TONS of stuff on both. But that is my 2 cents on it. I will NEVER go back to store eggs again after seeing what I've seen and reading what I have read. Same exact reason were buying a whole cow rather than store meats any more. I don't want my kids eating the meats coming from cafo's. Just too dangerous!

Well still did not get the pics downloaded, hubby has been working later and he didn't have time. SOON though! I'm making him do it for sure this weekend for me ;)

Bantam coop almost done

I have named this coop "Autumn Breeze" and I LOVE it' It is almost done and I will be taking more pics of it tonight and post them later if hubby can upload them for me. I am LOST without my Apple computer! I can't wait to get our new one! So anyway...it's beautiful and the chickens will LOVE it. Now I just have to figure out who I'm putting where. For now it's going to be the D'uccles in one 1/2 with the silkies...and in the other half will be Phoenix my Golden Phoenix rooster and his girlfriend Shelby ( my polish hen ) They make such a cute couple! I'm eventually going to get him his own girls and sell the eggs. I'm also getting some Black Copper Marans! I can't wait! They lay those really super dark chocolate eggs. I would LOVE to have those types of eggs. I am also looking at getting the "true" ameraucana's also who lay the sky blue eggs not the green eggs (those are easter egger chickens) Still cute and lay nice eggs but I want blue! LOL NOW i just have to get hubby to build me another coop! HEHE Prob won't happen for a really long long time but I can hope ;) I'm building me a brooder either tonight or this weekend sometime when I have off work. The baby orps are getting HUGE and keep tipping their water over so that cardboard is getting SO wet. I made them a larger table so now they don't spill it but their box is already wet so I have to replace it because...well, it sticks! Wet cardboard mixed with chicken poo is not pretty! PLUS it can't be good for them either.

Well, I have to go make some egg pancakes for dinner :D LOVE those things! They are VERY thin and you roll them up and put butter, sugar, and syrup over the top! YUM! I will take a picture of those too so you all can drool!

First, Kelly...here are new pictures of Phoenix (Golden Phoenix rooster). Isn't he just crazy beautiful!! I am IN LOVE with him.

Next, we have pictures of our new coop being built....We are having a blast with this. HUH not really! LOL We wish it was done. We are building it in the garage and my FIL is helping us out again so that really makes it go faster and he's such a good builder too so it always looks perfect. They will have heat and lights in the coop.

This is our vent system in the coop which will be able to close with insulation inside for colder/windy nights.

We will have doors like this on both sides of the coop since there will a separation in the middle of the coop. Light switches on both sides also so I can turn on/off the lights from either door :D

Here is our trail to the hen house now that we got FEETS of snow! LOL Our temps have been 0 or below for DAYS AND DAYS AND DAYS. All except for one odd day when it got to 39 and made a big skate pond in our driveway when it went back down to below zero that very same night. Oh and by the way...my hens will NOT step foot out their pop door LOL They prefer to stay their butts right inside the coop under the heat lamps. They are just too funny! When the weather was up to 39 that one day they came out for a few hours but once the sun went down they were right back inside. Sure glad we have lights in there for them! We would never get any eggs!

A MUCH better day

MAX IS BACK HOME! We got a call from a neighbor about a mile away (cutting through the woods) going around the properties we had to drive about 5 miles. Their property butts up against ours (we have 20 acres they have about 80). He called and said that he found our dog and that he is very scared. We rushed right over there! When we got their he said you better call him he was just right here. I called him and about 30 seconds later he came running and was very happy to see us. We told him thank you and he said to us "Be sure to keep your dog chained or it's a guarantee that next time he will be dead." That to me was a threat really...I don't blame him really as Max WAS chasing deer and people don't like that AT ALL! Not a good thing for a dog to do and anyone has the right to shoot a dog if it's on their property chasing other animals OR their livestock. He said that Max had been there before chasing deer (can't figure out when, as he is always accounted for) The guy was not happy at all. What we think happened is that the guy held him there just to teach us and Max a lesson. Especially when we got him home he was not interested in water or food. He was VERY sore and could hardly walk. I had to help him up the stairs when he had to go out potty. He was just not normal excited Max. NOW...he is right back to normal and back to being Max. We are SO happy and could not imagine life without Max. He is for sure part of our family. Thank you all for the nice comments and for worrying about Max :D That is so sweet!

Today we were out in the garage working on our bantam coop. I got lots of pictures and Cory is going to work on getting them on the computer since we don't have our apple right now.

Kelly, you should see Phoenix! OH is he beautiful, what I am going to do is order phoenix girls for him so I can sell their eggs. We are putting hardware cloth in-between to separate the coop and the yards. Kelly is still separate from the girls until spring because they pulled out all his beautiful neck feathers but they are coming in nice now. Red actually. Not white like before. He's looking really cute! Well I'm giving the computer over to hubby so he can get my pictures on here and later I will add them so come back later to check. I will just put them in a new entry.

Family is good :D Stefan goes back to school Sunday...he was home for two weeks. Did I tell you all that he was "All American" OL in football? I don't think I did...I was off here for so long. Well, I'm off. Hope you all are well.

Max is gone

Today right before noon was the last time we have seen max our Boxer. We think he took off chasing a deer and he never returned. We know that means bad news as he never goes off very far and he ALWAYS comes when we call him if he hears us. We have been out looking for him and I called all the Animal shelters in the area and nothing so far. I am just so sick to my stomach worried about him. It's been so cold and it rained ALL day here so on top of him being soaked it's going to get darn cold tonight and he can't even stay outside long to potty when it's this cold. I just hope someone picked him up and has him at their house and he's not lost out in the woods some place. We started our bantam coop today and I can't even be happy about that because I'm so worried about Max. It's SO strange here without him :( My son is out of town with a friend (it's his dog) and he is heart broken. Tomorrow I make up signs and post them around the area to see if anyone seen him. Nic is so sad too! It will be sad day's ahead if he doesn't come home.

I am SO sorry I haven't posted in well, A LONG time! I have to say, number one....HOW DO YOU FULL TIME FAMILIES DO IT AND POST TOO!!!??? LOL OMG I have never worked full time before and I have to tell you, I have WAY MORE respect for those women who do now and take care of the house stuff and babies too! I get 15 min to sit at work and that is it. I have been SO busy! I am SO sore when I get home it's not even funny but the good news is I LOST 10 LBS! No change in the way I eat but boy do I move! LOL Can we say NO time for anything else!? The one computer thing I have been doing is going to my Private message box on Back Yard Chickens because I have been selling Mille Fleur D'uccle eggs (I have sold EVERY egg those chickens have laid!) it's sort of a side business to try to make chicken food money. Those four chickens have earned their stay here PLUS some :D

My baby blu is doing AWESOME...he was so much smaller than the others but he's catching up. Looks like I MAY have three boys and only ONE girl :( If that is the case than two will have to go. :( We just don't have the room to separate them right now. The girl (thank god) is my splash :D That makes me happy. And of course I'm keeping Baby Blu! Blu did have spraddle legs (their legs are straight out to the side and they can't walk well at all) It was from being in the egg for so many days after his hatch date...I cured that in four days and you would never know anything was ever wrong with him. He is one strong bird Its all I can say. They are about 7 weeks old now and staying nice and warm in our basement...soon to move to our heated shed by the bantams though. We have a wood stove out there and they stay right about 60 degrees :D I could not watch them all get so cold in our garage as we have NOT made our bantam coop yet (cory says this week!)

OK now for us...well, we have been a busy family. Nic stays with grandma when both Cory and I work and LOVES it. He asks every morning..."mom, do you have to go to work today?" and when I say NO (Hoping he will say AHHH Shoot!" He says "OH MAN, I wanted to go to grandma's!" Lol Little stinker! He's a whole four now! And he has a (DARE I SAY IT) ATTITUDE! He does NOT like when we laugh at his funny saying's Here is a cute one I have to share with you. He grabbed a gardening book I had in the book shelf and put it on his head. He starts walking with his hands out for balance and says "ok, Easy, Easy, Come on Nicholas you can do this! You got this!" It was just hilarious! But if you laugh at him he will take off running to his room and pout. HEHE He has grown up so much and is SO easy to love.
My daughter has two jobs again and is paying her bills and being way more responsible. He nice car we bought her died a few months back and she was not working so we didn't see the need to have a car...Right? Well, she finally got a job and she stayed at it for a while so we thought it was time to get her another car...we know she could not get one on her own and all her money was going to other people to drive her to work and back. We found a 675.00 one in the paper that we could pay cash for rather than have MORE payments (were still paying for her other car!) We told her the only stipulation with that she HAD to come sit with us and figure out a budget to get all her bills paid up. She did that and she has been doing really well at it so far :D

My van is broke down so I have to get another vehicle so were looking for that now. I have been using Stefan's truck (he is now making his own payments on it to grandpa!) That is a load off our budget :D He has a job at the school he goes to and he is now getting a LITTLE disability ssi money. He would NEVER be able to live off that (300.00) but it gets his truck payment paid and gives him a little extra for things he needs. We pay the kids car ins and their cell phones so we can get ahold of them. If we didn't they would be driving without ins and we would never be able to talk to them! Neither of them can afford the car ins that's for sure! It's so crazy for teens now to get coverage.
****Guess what else??? Stefan is an "ALL AMERICAN" football player! He is recognized in a magazine even! I was shocked when he brought home all his awards and coaches plague. So proud of him! He can't wait to show his wrestling coach from his old school. He will be graduating in June and than I will have NO ONE in school for one year! WHEW! I would LOVE to keep Nic home but I know I can't and work full time. Plus he really wants to go to school. He loves his play group at his school once a week. He has made two really good friends Jadan and Jordan (twins) They are three peas in a pod. Their dad looks strangely like Cory too. Their dad is the one who takes them to the play group every Wed.

Cory has been doing dishes for me when I'm at work so that's nice! And last night the three boys cleaned almost the whole house while I was at work! Cory took two weeks off work so he has really been doing good here at home with helping out. Even with the chickens!

Ok pictures will come soon. But I can't do it right now because I'm on our old computer (we get our new apple in Jan or Feb) and I don't know how to add pics on this one yet. Waiting for hubby to show me. For now this is it and If I think of anything else I will post again. But I am still alive! Oh and Nic's hand is totally healed and looks normal :D He did split his lip really good and hurt his ankle but those are healed to now :D

A miracle!

I had a miracle happen today. Four days ago I had an egg pip and usually they hatch 12-24 hours after that. Well this one did NOT! In fact close to 30 hours later I decided I needed to step in and help it a bit. I chipped away at the shell and got over 1/2 of it off. I than covered it with wet paper towel and left it be to see if it could make it's way out. It was able to tear a little bigger hole in the shell over the next two days but that was it. This morning (I had to work from 11am to 11pm yesterday) I went down to check on it and it wasn't moving at all. Nothing. I went to pick it up to throw it away and it peeped at me! STILL ALIVE after all this time. It's a strong chick! It was my only blue and I was so upset because I thought I was going to lose it. I got four healthy chicks already and this was the last one to hatch. I looked at it a bit better and seen his foot sticking out a bit. He was looking at me with those cute eyes just begging for help. It was SO sad! I than decided I was on a mission to help this baby no matter what! I took it out and began working on it. I pulled the membrane away very slowly and inch by inch (45 min later) I was able to free it! Talk about relieved! That poor chick was SO relieved I could see it. Now, it's not doing great but it's alive and I have been giving it water with an eye dropper until it gets some strength back. His neck is weak from being all scrunched up in that egg for so long! Otherwise it looks like a perfect chick! I will let you know how it does. Here are some pics I got of it AND of my other four babies.

I'm still up tonight only because I'm waiting for my eggs to hatch. I have nine orpington's in the bator right now and I'm waiting for them to pip! They are due to hatch tomorrow :D I always do this! Get excited and than wait up for the darn things even if they aren't doing anything. I'm SO tired. I worked from 7am to 7pm and I'm just tired. I'm going to check one more time and if there is nothing going on I'm going to hit the sack and HOPE for something tomorrow morning when I wake up. The hens have been laying four eggs a day for us! We still have several that need to start laying yet.

Work has been ok...I like it but it's just so darn draining. SO different than my last job even though it's the same type of job. Nic's hand is totally healed now and he is doing great :) He got to spend all day with grandma today and he was loving it. I was so happy to see him when I got home from work though! I miss him so much when I'm at work. I'm off tomorrow and Saturday and I work 11am to 11pm on Sunday. Another hectic day! Well, just wanted to come on to say hi and again I'm SO sorry I have not been around to comment to anyone's journal but I will catch up! It's just been pretty crazy lately.

Well I hope pictures show up here...I have been having problems getting them on here again. The first day it worked now it's giving me grief again. Janis didn't know what D'uccles were. Janis, here is a picture of my Mille Fleur D'uccle's. They are very sweet girls. Ok so my pictures are 1/2 cut off but I think you can see what you need to see. The D'uccle girls are the brown ones. The fuzzy butts in the back are silkies.

Helen wanted to see pics of the eggs they laid...the little white ones are next to my Sex link pullet eggs which are still not regular sized. I didn't have a store egg to compare it to but it's about quarter size. maybe a touch bigger

And here is my baby's new hand pics. The first two are of Nic with his thinner bandage on and the last one is of Nic with it all off :D Now all we have to do is put Biafine on it to keep it moist and the skin from getting overly hard while growing in. If you look on the dates of the pictures you can see how fast he has healed up. He first got burned on October 24th.

As for work...well, it's MUCH harder than my last job I had at a hotel. At this hotel we NEVER sit down. Heck I used to watch tv at my other job...or play on the computer. Not here...no time! BUT what I am hoping is that I will lose some weight while working there LOL Everything else at home has been great. Cory has even been doing the dishes :D that makes me VERY happy to come home to the dishes done. He fixed my oven last night too so now I can cook again :D AND he made home made bread! I come home and the house smelled SOO good! I have a day off today so I'm going to spend time with Nic and the chickens. I'm sure they are wondering where the heck I have been for the past 4 days. I purchased a larger waterer for them because I was not home to refill it like I used to be.

My D'uccles gone mad

I went out to change water yesterday morning to find two tiny cream eggs laying on the floor of the D'uccle chicken coop! I was thrilled. I waited patiently for my dad to wake his butt up so I could show him and than I wanted to check for fertility. Well they ARE fertile :D So guess what I will be doing after the eggs hatch that I have in my incubator right now? YUP hatching D'uccle eggs! Not right away...I'm going to give them a month so the chicks have a better chance at hatching. So than I go to leave for work and guess what I see!? ANOTHER tiny egg on the ground. ALL three of them laid the same day! So far none today but maybe later. Nic went to see the doctor again today and he got all bandages off and he just has to put med cream on it three times a day :D It's healing up nicely! I will take a picture of it tomorrow when I have a day off work. Have to leave here in a bit to go to work. Just wanted to fill you all in. I hope everyone has a great day :D

Monday reports on Nic

BOY it's cold here lately. We had our first snow yesterday, not much just a few flurries but it was pretty. I love snow. I don't know If I'm ready for it yet...seems like it just melted a while ago. Well we still had feet of it in April yet!

So Monday we went to the burn clinic and here is what they told me at check in.

"Today we will be popping the blisters and cutting off all the skin over the burned area and wrapping it back up" I'm like OH GOODIE! THAT should be fun! So we fill out our paper work and head back to the room. It looked like a surgery room with a bed and totally white! I felt sick to my stomach. Nic jumped right up on the bed himself and the nurse took his temp and than three other nurses walk in. The head nurse explained to me that the nurses would help hold Nic down while they cut the old skin off. They explained this to Nic... Nic looked at them and put his hand up, waved it a bit and said in a brave voice "NO, that's ok" LOL They said that's ok what? He said I don't need you to hold me I'm ok. I told them to wait before they hold him...that he may be ok. So they tried it...all standing around ready to grab Nic and hold him. The women got her grabbers and her scissors and Nic sat there patiently watching her...still as can be. He sat there through the whole thing and said NOTHING! Well I should say nothing...he did say ouch twice. He amazed those nurses s much that they went and got the other nurses to peak in and see what a brave boy he was being. They said they never had that happen before with a 3 yr old. They ALWAYS had to hold the 3 yr old down. I was so proud of him :D They got done and gave Nic his special glove they had been telling him about. Not anything special just finger gauze. Makes little finger gloves for him. He liked it though.
He got TONS of stickers and they even gave him several little toys because he was SO good. He has to go back on Wed and Fri and than start water therapy after that. Sounds fun.

Today Nic and I head to the burn clinic to see what's up. Got my blogs copied today so that is off my chest now. I just wish I could put them all together into one. I will be journaling here in this one from now on and only this one. That way it's easier for my followers rather than changing blogs for me again. I will just add links here for my other ones as well but not till later...gotta run! Will update later about how he did and what they said.

Update on doctor visit

Well we had to go back to the doctor yesterday and get his bandage changed. He said it was a little worse than what they thought but it's still not bad bad. They are sending him to the burn clinic on Monday because the joint is also burned where his fingers bend and they don't want that to get hard with the new skin growing in under the blisters so they have to send him for a special glove I guess. They don't THINK they will have to do any skin graphs at all which is good! Tomorrow we go back again for another bandage change. This sure is not slowing him down at all. What he can't do with his had he does with his feet! LOL He's been happy and has not complained.

On the chicken front...I had a rooster who we were thinking was a hen and I was kind of bummed out about it because I wanted him to be a rooster. Two days ago he was in the nest box. I thought he was laying an egg so we than thought hen...well today he crowed! AND he started mating the girls! All of a sudden this morning he decides to be a rooster?? No signs AT ALL until this morning.

We have company today so I'm going to get off here for now but will update again later.

Oh it was a bad day yesterday...I was in the shower (getting ready for work) and Nic was out with Grandpa Artie and he was helping him move things since it was big garbage pick up the next day. We had a fire going in the yard to burn anything that could burn rather than throw it on the road. Nic was "helping" and before grandpa could see him Nic reached down to pick up a VERY hot piece of metal and burned his hand bad. All I heard was "CARRIE" grandpa was calling me telling me Nic got burned. I quick threw something on and ran out there to Nic who was just screaming. We had to force him to run it under cold water. He did NOT like that at all. Grandpa called grandma who was a nurse back in the day, and she come over. I grabbed the ice pack because he was pulling so much out of the water I thought it would break open the blisters so I just let him hold his ice pack on it. He wanted me to hold him but he once I picked him up he wanted down. We rushed out (I called work told them I would be late) and went to the emergency room. He screamed all the way (I'm lucky I didn't get picked up for speeding) once we got their they took him right in. Had a hard time looking at it since he didn't want to remove the ice pack from it. The skin was black and it was on all fingers and part of his palm :( The doc things his fingerprints will no longer be there and they won't know what degree burns until today. They wrapped it up with pain reliever and sent us home. He has to go back today to see what degree burns and than we see where we go and what we do from there. We have company coming today, I still have not cleaned, and I'm just bummed out hoping Nic will be ok. It's his left hand so he didn't have problems playing on the computer today. Here are a few pics of him (now feeling a little better) We have him on Ibuprofen/Tylenol mix so he gets meds every 2 hours for the pain...per doctors advice.

Well better get cleaning. What the heck happened to larger font? AND COLOR!? It's not on my post today! GRRR I HATE new things! well I have pics but it's not letting me add them! What's going on?

Ok I figured it out! :D I had to get a new template..had my own that hubby made and it wasn't allowing me to add the gadgets that way. Now I got um :D SO ADD AWAY FOLKS! AND I was told my picture worked too :D That makes me happy.

Lets see if adding pictures works for me. Let me know if you can see this :D Ok and than on another note. I did see where to add a followers button but I can only add it on one and the other says template rather than layouts and I can't find the gadgets button on that one GRRR anyone have a clue to get to the gadgets from your template button?

I've been keeping a journal at AOL but they are not closing their doors so here I am back here. I opened this one up in 2006 but could not figure out how to post pictures so went over to aol. Guess I'm going to have to learn huh! I'm going to be keeping only ONE journal here. I'm hoping that everything transfers over ok along with my pictures. I'm working on it but until I get everything here I"m going to keep updating over at aol where I KNOW what I'm doing ;)

NEWS: We got our first pullet egg! Izzy laid her first egg at noon today :D She made a big deal out of it too! She had all the chickens bawking like crazy.
